a whole new vdubxs 2.0 logo
It’s been a while coming, but it’s time for a whole new vdubxs 2.0! It’s been a few years now since I first set up this website (back in 2013!). Back then it was all about following the restoration of my Early Bay Westfalia. How times have changed since then!

As well as changes to my buses, the vdubxs logo (plus the site itself) has gone through a couple of different incarnations as well. Now it’s time for a big change! First up, the logo or main identity for vdubxs needed updating. It’s always good to re-evaluate things and look at them with a fresh perspective.

It all starts with a new logo
Previous versions of the logo were OK… although I was never fully satisfied with it. The last version was close to being ‘right’, but having lived with it for a few months, I felt there was still room for improvement! A bit like Michelangelo’s famous quote ‘I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free‘, I needed to remove the excess visual distraction. Simplify and remove anything extraneous until all that’s left is all that’s required to make the biggest impact.

‘Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.’ – Charles Mingus
It takes time to distil and simplify things sometimes, but it was time well spent! I’m pleased with the outcome. I’d be interested to hear any feedback people might have on the new identity? Is it a hit or a miss? I’m always open to constructive critique…

Next up for the rebrand of vdubxs 2.0 is the look and feel of the website itself. Sometimes for a bit of fresh thinking and inspiration, it’s great to get out from the confines of traditional studio space and get some fresh air. One of the (many) things I love about my camper is that it allows me to enjoy the benefits of working wherever I want to be! It’s my mobile studio on occasion. So have a studio on wheels, will travel…

Inspiration from an ever-changing horizon
Sometimes it feels like my natural habitat is in front of a screen rather than behind the wheel. So it’s great to be able to combine a bit of both once in a while. The inspiration gained from an ever-changing horizon.

I often do a mix of paper and pencil work in terms of mocking up ideas before the main digital development. A bit oldskool I know, but hey, nothing wrong with that! Being in the bus I can crack on with a bit of both, and with the wonders of modern technology and a decent phone signal, ideas can go live when finished! Normally I’m doing all this sort of stuff for clients in a pretty dry office environment. Much more fun working in the back of a camper! 🙂

It’s often harder making decisions when you are your own client, but not in this case. I’m really enjoying doing a major overhaul of the vdubxs site. It’s going to be really good, vdubxs 2.0… a whole new experience! I will be rolling it out shortly, so make sure you subscribe to keep up with all changes and developments…
PS; If you fancy supporting me with the vdubxs site and my future travels and adventures, that would be ace! The easiest way of doing this is through simply buying me a coffee, tea or maybe even a beer, all made simple through the link button below…
