Although I love VW buses, I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for VW Beetles as well. As a kid, my first happy automotive memories were made in my Dad’s VW camper. However, the first air-cooled VW I ever owned myself, was a classic VW Beetle!
I’ve now had three in total, but by far, my favourite Beetle ever was a super solid, mostly original paint RHD 1960 Golde Ragtop bug 🙂 Unfortunately, I ended up selling this to help fund a 23 Window samba resto at the time. Wish I hadn’t, as I really, really loved that bug! 🙁
I’ve been recently laid up with some seasonal bug (no pun intended!) and it got me thinking that I’ve done lots of bus illustrations, but never any early Beetles. Time to put that right whilst I had some time on my hands…
With the forthcoming road trip to Hessisch Oldendorf in Germany coming up soon, I’m really looking forward to seeing some early vintage Beetles. I guess this in part inspired me to do some drawings!
The beautiful simplicity of the design! I love the way you get the happy V shape line at the front of the car and the W shape line at the back, iconic branding at its best! Available in a bugtastic range of classic period colours!
Hope you like the new designs/illustrations? I’ve made them all available on my Society 6 page as a range of gallery quality Giclée art prints, t-shirts, hoodies, mugs etc. or along with my other t-shirts for sale here.
Any money raised from sales will go towards the next road trip, so feel free to spread the word or even treat yourself – many thanks! 🙂
