Cracking the colour code conundrum

Having run the M plate-code numbers a little more information on my Early Bay SO67 Westafalia camper is revealed. It’s original factory VW colour was  L87 – Perl White and this will be the colour I will be getting it returned to once again.

Its planned production date was Saturday, 01 November 1969, which makes its model year a 1970. Originally it would have been a model Type 2 (T2) mod. 231(0) – Kombi before it went to the Westaflia factory for an interior Westfalia Campmobile conversion.

Coincidentally, L87 – Perl White was also the VW factory colour for a certain 1963 Ragtop Beetle affectionately known around the world as ‘Herbie
