a new chapter begins – my vintage VW split screen camper has finally arrived!

Well today I felt a bit like a kid waking up on Christmas morning, as I looked out and saw my ‘new’ VW split screen camper parked on the drive! I must admit that I had really missed having my Early Bay Westfalia camper over the last few months, so it was great to have another vintage air-cooled VW camper once again.

Having driven it back in the rain last night, I’ll need to give it a good wash and wax polish, but here it is in it’s before getting washed state…

Home at last! My new 1965 L289 (Blue White) over L512 (Velvet Green) camper

It’s a 1965, made in Germany, but imported from California, VW split screen bus that has had a Canterbury Pitt walk-through interior retro fitted to it, as originally, they were never fitted to LHD campers.

The whole camper and interior are in really good condition, and it has been largely kept (or returned to) factory stock condition with pretty much all original panels and metalwork! It had been previously painted a different colours when the previous owner bought it, but he decided to return it to its original classic colour scheme of Blue White (Blauweiss) L289 over Velvet Green L512, and although not a show or trailer queen, it is exactly what we wanted, to the point that even my wife loves it!

I suspect over the next few days I will be busy exploring the camper in more detail, and of course, taking it out for drives with a big smile on my face!
