about

All stories have to start somewhere. So where did my love story with vintage campers begin? Well I guess I was really lucky that when growing up, my Dad at different times owned various camper vans. Here the seed was clearly sown…

These were the days of low-cost, DIY holidays in and around the UK. These early experiences and memories would have been the foundation for my interest and fascination in later life. I guess as a kid growing up, nothing seemed more magical than roofs that transformed into tents for camping in, or travelling in the rear of a vehicle that could at a moments notice, morph into a living room, bedroom or a kitchen when you pulled up at the seaside. It was like living in your own kind of Sci-Fi reality!

Playing cards on the table in the back, the whistle of the boiling kettle on the stove, sleeping in the roof, the magic of these early experiences has lived on and lingered long into later life for me. So simply buying a car that got you from A to B was never really going to satisfy the soul after having this introduction to the possibilities of what you could have!

My Dad was a real lover of technology advances, so I suspect he would have been more about the modern VW’s today, I wonder what he would have made of my current day love of vintage campers?

Originally, I set this blog up to follow the restoration of my early VW S067 Westfalia Camper through many stages of rust removal and metal replacement, lots of bodywork and preparation and a mechanical overhaul to finally arrive at this beautifully restored, factory fresh camper! However, having got the Early Bay Westfalia Camper back to stock specification, I got the ‘automotive itch’ to look into getting another older vintage Split screen camper, and so the ongoing adventure continues…

If you follow the blog, you’ll soon realise unfortunately I’m no mechanic! A background of Architecture to independent designer, founding Passion 4 to produce integrated solutions for print, online, social, photographic, furniture or whatever else floats the boat. Passionate, eclectic, visionary, pencil driven technology fused ideas, everything is up for grabs, all served with a consuming fascination for typography, distressed materials and of course vintage VW campers! 🙂

Hopefully you might enjoy my ramblings and mini adventures in and with our vintage 1964 VW camper, if so stick around, follow and enjoy the ride…
